Ever since I was a young lad my parents always helped me find joy in nature. Between catching bull frogs and exploring the local treasures of Ottawa, it’s fair to say I spent most of my time outdoors. I have fond memories of the first camping trips I had with my dad and I’m very lucky we still get out together. All of these things combined created a passion for getting out in every season that I don’t want to shake. Ever since I began sharing my experiences via video with the world I’ve heard comments telling me I’ve inspired them to get out in some capacity. This makes me think maybe I can be the catalyst to get others in nature like my parents did for me, an endless ripple effect.

Around 2015 I began feeling more inspired to create videos of my adventures. I saw what fun my dad was having making his creations and I’m certain it’s what inspired me along with the extreme sport “sponsor me” videos I would watch. At the time my material was more oriented around fishing but as things progressed I started incorporating other activities. Here we are today, running fun trips from spring to winter. I’m grateful to be working a job in the field I pursued academically and that it allows me to create the content you see today. Now the 5 you ask, well it’s a play on our last name. Lefebvre sounds like lefive sometimes and it just stuck throughout our family!

So now with almost 10 years of having fun we have been strategizing some different approaches for this channel. I’ve been incorporating more of my own brand presence as well as trying introduce products that I have put through the test. On top of all that I’ve met some other creative minds that will find their way onto the screen at some point or another. Building this channel has not only helped me creatively but it has also opened up a social world where I’ve found some great friends. As time goes on I hope to grow this channel to ultimately inspire other people to get outdoors. By getting outdoors you will make yourself feel better and by doing that you’ll also make those around you happier. Now, let’s get out there!

“It’s Canada Parks Day! Our tax system makes so many things possible. Which park is your favourite?”@canrevagency

I was hired on contract in the Creative Services department of the CRA’s Public Affairs Branch as an Information Officer. This allowed me to created public-facing print documents, promotional posts for social media and high profile collateral materials. These are various social media posts which I created and helped conceptualize. Posts which are relevant to the present day’s commemorative theme(such as International Chocolate Day) go out daily to help inform taxpayers. I have removed the supplied in the posts.

“Oh fudge! Did you make a mistake on your tax return? Fix it quickly and easily online with REFILE! Once it’s done, “treat yo’ self” to a piece of chocolate, it is International Chocolate Day, after all.” @canrevagency
“It’s Bad Poetry Day! Did you just get married? Check out our best prose. ✒😜”@canrevagency
“Happy International Left handers Day! Did you smudge your tax return? Don’t worry, you can go online and use change my return!”@canrevagency
“It’s Love A Tree Day! Help save a tree by signing up for direct deposit! Less paper, faster payments.”@canrevagency
“Are you a self-employed photographer? Check here to determine which expenses are tax deductible so you can stay focused on the big picture.”@canrevagency
“Happy Video Games Day! If you get a call from someone claiming to be the Canada Revenue Agency, asking you to pay your taxes with Bitcoin, hit pause – that’s a scam! Power up by learning how to prevent fraud.”@canrevagency
  • Colour Blind Album Artwork

    Colour Blind Album Artwork

Here is an album cover I created for Max Trippenbach’s album, Color Blind(Soundcloud link). He approached me looking for some artwork to go on his Soundcloud account and this is what we came up with. I absolutely love his music so it made work on this a breeze. I decided to recreate a colour blindness test plate which would read “Color Blind”. This was done by working with numerous colours matches to find which worked best for this situation. Max has Deuteranopia which is pretty common, this type of colour blindness will cause reds and greens to merge together as well as other colour matches. A version with pink type and blue background had much more contrast and was easier to read but it was not chosen as the final. I have attached some of the colour research I did as well as showing what a user with colourblindness sees. Color Oracle is an excellent resource to help design with easy accessibility in mind.

Later on, I submitted this piece to Stefan Sagmeister during his design reviews on Instagram. It was great to have my work assessed by someone that I view so highly, I also enjoyed the feedback in the comments section. I learned a lot from the critiques, mainly being that I would have made the type more clear if given another shot. This was Stefan’s feedback.

my review: I’ve seen this eye test numerous times applied to graphics projects, and while not new, your version does a good job. I would appreciate it more if the non-color blind person gets rewarded with something more interesting to read than the term ‘color blind’, even if its just the name of the band.”  – Stefan Sagmeister

  • Enviroview App Design

    Enviroview App Design

This is a recycle management app created in hopes of encouraging people to help clean up within their own communities. Creating the app involved many stages ranging from User Research, Scenario Building, Usability Testing and Branding. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my awesome teacher Jed Looker!

The application is intended for users to identify polluted areas around them alerting local waste collection service. The images that users post get collected on a map and database. This allows high traffic areas to get priority when being cleaned. This is what I have for now and I’m hoping one day this app could help clean up our environment. If you have any input, help a brotha out!

  • A Handmade Ironwood Keychain

    A Handmade Ironwood Keychain

Here’s a project that really means a lot to me. Going through high school I was stuck wondering what to do just like everyone else. I remember being completely obsessed with wood working throughout the first couple years of school. From making lathed pens to a longboard, I learned a whole lot. Getting towards the end of school and continuing on I’ve been pursuing Design. Having the chance to mix the two makes this project one of my favourites. This is one of a few unique pieces I created using salvaged ironwood and deerskin leather lace. The tree used dates back to 1976 and this piece contains roughly 10 layers worth of those years. This is one of the smaller keychains I created which can hold about half a kilogram.

  • Mayan Influenced Laser Etching

    Mayan Influenced Laser Etching

4th semester this just about done and I’m ready for summer. I can already tell it’s going to be a quick one though considering all the stuff I’d like to do throughout the break! Learned so many awesome techniques and found lots of great resources this semester. I can’t believe I’ve almost finished 2 years of college. Here’s a shot of some laser etching that I’ve recently been playing with. I decided to put one of my Mayan influenced designs on a piece of Red Ironwood(?) pulled from the bottom of the Mexican Gulf that my father and I brought back to Canada. It’s a whole other experience for me being able to design like this, so much more satisfying then viewing your stuff on screen or print! I’d really love to learn how to work using this process and how to incorporate it into future projects.

    Environmental Malas

This is a complex design created using an image of Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada. A specific colour palette and masking technique was used to create a mysterious & psychedelic vibe. Made up a few other similar designs.

  • El Punto Font Design & 3D Printing

El Punto Font Design & 3D Printing

Couldn’t possibly think of a cooler project. For my final typography project, we had to create our own font. I created El Punto which is a display font inspired by western woodblock type used mainly for Mayan influenced designs. The structure is based on hand painted lettering with a western flare which resembles typography found throughout Mexico. We had to 3D print one of our glyphs which was really hard to choose but I’m really happy with how it turned out!

    Typography Experimentation – Ransom Note

This is a typographic assignment that I had a blast working on. I physically and digitally manipulated a short story called Ransom Note Writing Tips by Josh Abraham, this is what I came up with. Gotta love taking advantage of the large format scanners at school! What you see here is my visual representation of the story.

Bridge Making, Gold Panning & .22 Shootin

Didn’t need TV when out in good ol’ Fort Coulonge. Had one of the greatest camping trips of my life recently which consisted of; surprising fishing results, bridge making, gold panning, .22 (30-30) shooting, bites from a plethora of bugs, log cabin sleeping & picture taking. Thought this one outta the bunch deserved to go into the archive. Here’s one of my favourite images of dad playing with fire, used a little Photoshop help.
